Maybe because we have a public pension system. But when the pension is not enough and a person has to relay on social security authorities will check the income of all direct relatives. Depending on your income you are obligated to support your kids and parents.

I recently learned that one of the US nuclear weapon depots was at the german airforce airbase my father was stationed on and we lived nearby when I was a kid.

I love making lassi, maybe that’s something you can try. There are lots of different types of lassi, different tastes sweet and salty, but also different consistency.
I usually use half yoghurt and half water as the base, which gives you a consistency of buttermilk. But you can add as much or little water (and/or milk) as you prefere. From there you can add fruits or spices you like.

I can imagine that the percentage of ND reddit and lemmy user are higher than in the general population.
So by refusing to use /s you are actually cutting a big part of lemmy users out of the conversation.
She probably has a contract. you can not just stop paying things because you don’t like it anymore, you have to follow the terms of that contract. Otherwise every payment you skipp is a debt to the other party and hey can sue you for breaking the contract and for backpay of the payments you skipped.
In your example with netflix, the contract you enter into when signing up for their service specifically states, that you can leave it monthly and Netflix lets you do that by not paying anymore.
This is part of Netflix’s concept as a service provider and doesn’t mean its the same in other services.
