It reminded me of Aeon Flux. Peter Chung’s other work is called Reign the Conqueror. Maybe it’s a nod?
Severance and Presumed Innocent were both really good.

Really Dune 2? I actually hated it. some of the writting was very questionable and didn’t seems as fun and exciting as the first 1. I was really looking forward for Dune 2 as well. What did you like about the movie?
Hrmm… good question. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen it so my specific feelings are getting a little hazy at this point. I do agree the first was a better film but this one still lives large in my mind. I think it comes down to combination of elements that made it a fulfilling theater experience. The incredible sandworm riding, particularly the first time Paul is attempting to do it, beautiful imagery of the solders running up a hill side and just start levitating up the mountain, the incredible soundtrack and overall soundscape for that matter, the stark black and white world where we meet Feyd-Rautha in the gladiator ring.
I think the movie would’ve benefitted from being split in two but as a couple hours in the theater I got the spectacle I went in for.
My parents took me to a late 80s re-screening of Picnic at Hanging Rock when I was 6 or 7yo.
I think at the time the classification board described it as “G” indicating that “the content is mild in impact” but by then it was no longer a new film and parents probably should have known better.
Sure its not as rough as Fortress (1985) but it was still covering themes of children in realistic peril. Its not a film with a happy ending and the fact that its based on a true story left child me shaken.
Yea I can definitely see that. They’re something very haunting and beautiful about the movie. I watched it and thought it was pretty good. Then for about a week I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It gets under your skin and burrows into your subconscious.
I really liked the Fallout tv series and Vinland Saga which I dropped twice around episode 5 some years ago. But I gave it a third shot and damn, so good.
As for movies, Dune 2 was such a fantastic experience that I watched it 3 times in theaters. It’s funny cuz I watched the first one and I liked it but didn’t think much of it. But after watching the second one I’m just obsessed with the Dune universe. Can’t wait for the third one.
Frieren quickly became my #1 anime of all time
I read this a lot recently and i only watched like 2 episodes. Does it pick up after that? Don’t get me wrong, i don’t hate it, i just had crazy expectations.
I don’t remember what exactly happens in the first two episodes, but you need to have in mind that this is not your usual action Shounen anime, it has a general slower pace, and that is good for some after binge watching action focused stuff…
Anyway, I can say there are some good action scenes and generally speaking the visuals are stunning.

Spy X Family and Delicious in Dungeon.
SxF is pretty family friendly, DnD has occasional blood. SxF is a feel-good show. Both have interesting premises.
Tampopo. It’s like if instead of protecting a small village, The Magnificent Seven was about helping a lady open a nice little ramen shop, but also the movie was about half directed by Monty Python, and also a little bit of food kink now and again.
I borrowed it on DVD and immediately went out and bought the Criterion Blu-ray. It’s amazing.

I don’t watch much tele these days.
I watched Superstore for the first couple seasons when it came out, but recently watched the whole thing.
Though it’s a very funny comedy, it depicts the hopelessness I felt as a worker in the US so well. I’m astounded that they were able to be as pro-union as they were, and get that it would have been a diversion from the original tone of the series, but I still wish they’d pushed it a little harder.
On a personal level, there’s a character that I initially identified with, Dina. She’s nuts, and I’m not exactly proud of identifying with her, but it’s cool to watch it again after realizing that I’m autistic and see that she has a lot of autistic traits. I don’t know if that was intentional on the creators’ part or if I’m just reading too much into a character I like, but it’s still almost reassuring to see? I’m told I’m generally likable, unlike Dina, but that’s because I mask all of the behaviors she displays. The other characters do grow to like her, so it feels like a confirmation that I can be a little more myself around people.
Anyway, I want more people to watch it, so I can geek out about it.
Three Body ( Amazon Prime ) was GREAT
The Three Body Problem ( Netflix) was pretty good too
